A day trip to Helen GA.

Sometimes a quick getaway is all your family needs for relaxation and bonding time. Why not try a day trip to Helen, Georgia? The bavarian-themed mountain town is just an hour and a half drive from East Cobb. And, there is so much fun to be had! Here are some of our favorite activities:

Tubing

Grab some friends, a cooler and make a day out of tubing down the river. Remember to bring sunscreen, sunglasses and a change of clothes. Also, we recommend the “pushing stick” since the river can be shallow in parts. We love booking with Cool River Tubing for rental and shuttle rides.

Mountain Coaster

Next, try the fast and fun Georgia Mountain Coaster with your kids! This coaster flies through the beautiful forest canopy and down a mountain. Your kiddos must be at least 3 years old to ride. And, kids can ride in the same cart as a parent, sibling or friend over the age of 16. The coaster is open everyday, as long as the weather allows.

Pan for Gold

Go gold panning or gem mining with the kids at Outpost Gold & Gem Mining Co. Try your luck with a bucket of dirt with concentrated gold or gems. You will get a hands-on lesson from a trained staff member on how to find your treasures and how to identify them.

Afternoon Stroll

Helen is the perfect little town for walking. Stop in to the Christmas Shop, the gem and mineral shop, and grab something sweet at a bakery or candy shop. One of our favorites is the Alpine Olive Tree, an olive oil shop that carries oils and vinegars from around the world. (Try the raspberry balsamic, it is amazing!

Grab Dinner

After your busy day, you will definitely be hungry! We recommend The Heidelberg, a German Restaurant, Pub and Music Bar. Our favorite dish is jagerschnitzel, a seasoned pork loin topped with mushroom cream sauce. It is so good!

There is so much more to do in Helen, GA. Check out the town’s website for more ideas and enjoy a fun family day-trip, or weekend getaway just a short trip up Georgia 400!
